Check if you need a visa for Portugal and Macau before travelling

What are the requirements for a visa for Portugal?

Portugal is a member of the European Union, so all visitors need a passport from their home country to travel to Portugal. 

A visa is not required for tourists who are visitors for 90 days or less, unless they are also travelling to Spain, Andorra, Monaco, or Switzerland.

Visitors must have a return ticket and proof of sufficient funds. 

To visit some popular tourist destinations in Portugal such as Sintra and Porto, you will need a national park pass. 

For those staying longer than three months, an Extended Stay Visa may be required.

What are the requirements for a visa for Macau?

Macau requires a visa for citizens of most countries. Nationals of the following countries do NOT require a visa: Hong Kong, Japan, Singapore, South Korea and Taiwan. For more information, please see the Portuguese Embassy website or consult an immigration lawyer.

To apply for a visa, you will need to provide proof of your identity (a passport), proof of your travel plans (a hotel reservation or air ticket), as well as enough money to cover your stay in Macau (around US$60). You can download the application form from the Portuguese Embassy website or from the consulate in your home country.

How to check if you need a visa for Portugal or Macau?

If you are travelling to Portugal or Macau for tourism, business, or other purposes not related to immigration, you do not need a visa. However, if you plan to stay in Portugal or Macau for more than 90 days or visit one of the country’s military bases, you will need a visa. You can apply for a visa at an Portuguese embassy or consulate in your home country. You can also apply for a visa at an immigration office in Macau.
